Six and a half years, and all it’d earned him was a degree that was only good for wiping his backside with. “Be an engineer Dexter! Reach for the stars Dexter!” he said to himself in a high pitched voice as he carefully shoved the glass plate into his overalls along with the screw that kept it in place.
His entire life had been leading up to this moment. “Changing a light bulb off an old lamp post.” Dexter stated, snorting to himself as he unscrewed the bulb and tossed it without much care towards his tool kit with lay at the base of the lamp post. “Calloused hands, stained clothes. Aye, robotic’s was definitely the road to go boy oh!” he continued to himself, imitating his father’s voice. If he could only see him now. The blunette hung carefully from the lamp, upside down, legs hooked around it. One arm wrapped tightly while the other carefully screwed in the lightbulb. He recalled that usually when people did this, they had some sort of contraption keeping them up. Not, a shitty leather belt that he constantly felt the needed to tighten. He had never been the most athletic nor the healthiest young man. Just hanging onto the post tired him out. His arms hurt, his stomach ached, and he constantly felt the needed to use his rust covered fingers to scratch his forehead and his neck as sweat began to drip from his scalp. But there was no need to lament about it now. Complaining while he worked only helped pass the time seeing as he had now portable radio to set up. And he was running out of breath to keep singing ‘Take On Me’. The life of a mechanic was a great one. So glamorous. So posh!
Dexter eyed the hole, making sure there were no obstructions for the bulb before flinching at the shriek of a crow. “Shit!” He clung tightly to the lamp post, trembling before hearing a distinct crack. Dexter looked down, which only made the shaking worse, to see the spare light bulb had slipped out of his pocket when he’d jumped and landed bellow him. “Great. Thank you bird. See if I give you a fucking bolt now!” he snarled. His words were met with indifference with the crow who had perched itself on a nearby wall and had begun preening. Grumbling, the young man began scooting to begin his slow crawl back to solid ground. Luckily. He’d taken enough spares with him for mishaps like this. “Just, calmly worm over there…” he muttered keeping his eyes on the target. As he moved, so did the safety holding him up. The belt slowly gave way before dropping off completely before he could notice. Panic then set in. “C – C’mon Dexter!” he squeaked, his heart pounding in his chest. He was so close. He unlocked his legs ready to position them on the post and begin a gradual slide down the pole…and then that damn crow shrieked once more. He let go too soon and slipped off the post with a curse. A very loud, and angry curse. Terrified out of his mind he simply prayed for some sort of miracle. ‘Please don’t leave me cripple! Please don’t leave me cripple!’ If he couldn’t work he would die on this island.

Damascus was so happy to be reunited with Fawcett. He couldn't imagine the amount of destruction he caused while searching for his son. It was almost as the son of miracles was more a trinket to keep Fawcett's wrath in check by just his presence. Regardless, life was a bit more comfortable with something familiar, instead of everything being so odd. Life in a prison environment, even with people desiring to make it as normal as possible. He'd try at least to do the same, but a stroll never really hurt. Unfortunately, he was noticing a trend that people had jobs and it wouldn't do to sit around idly to pass the time. Everyone had a niche, something to occupy themselves with and be productive besides getting money. He had never really had that problem before...
But who would offer him a job?
Quite a dilemma he thought. People didn't take too kindly to him, mostly because he was robotic. Technically were it not for Fawcett's skin, he would be full robot wouldn't he? But he was half and half, a balanced soul of magic and science culminating into a single person. He had feelings, thoughts, and free will like everyone else. Getting a job may be just as difficult as trying to get people to understand he was a 'halfling' of divine science.
Any more mental musings were cut short by a scene playing before him. A young man was performing his usual duties, but wasn't usual was that he was falling from the lamp he was working upon.Eyes widening just a single moment, Damascus leaped into action, metal legs propelling him forward until a rush of magic pushed him to flight. With his arms in a carrying position, he was hoping to catch the bright haired lad in his grasp. Had he been successful, he'd linger in the air for an instant until he would land and place him down with the utmost of care.
Whatever race he could possibly be, no one should be treated roughly. "Are you alright?" He would ask, a fairly normal question, keeping unnatural eyes of gold and black on this person. He had never met him before, so recalling his name was impossible right now. So long as he knew he was fine, then he could continue on to his own business.

He shook, his body still pumping him full of adrenaline. The hair on his neck standing still tense from bracing for that painful impact. Dexter’s fall was stopped, but not abruptly or painfully. What had happened? Had his neck snapped rendering him an immediate death? He clung to the stranger, the only thing he could grasp right now as he tried to muddle through his own confused thoughts. Dexter hesitantly released his grip, feet finally touching on the solid ground he had missed so much. “I don’t – I’m not – I mean. ” Dexter stared upwards wishing he could’ve bitten his tongue. “I thought I was dead? Am I dead?” he murmured distractedly, lifting a hand to harshly pinch his own cheek. He recoiled at the burst of pain and let go immediately.
No he wasn’t dead. He looked down immediately feeling a hot wave of shame wash over him. The mechanic made an attempt to wipe off the sweaty orange patches with his work gloves, only managing to smear it a bit more over his pale skin. “No, I don’t think I’m alright but thank you for asking anyway.” He replied quickly. The blonde before him was definitely not human. He had been alone on the street before. It was the only reason he had allowed himself enough slack to curse in the street. Besides, no human he knew of could develop black sclera. “W – where..?” he stopped himself, clutching his chest. The adrenaline still flowing through his bloodstream and the fear of cracking his skull open, accompanied with the appearance of a very good looking individual had left him shaken to the core. He felt wobbly and dizzy and he refused to feel as weak as he knew he was. He coughed into his arm a couple of time trying to clear his through and calm down. “Ahem, where did you come from?” Dexter asked, words slow as he tried to make sure he enunciated correctly.
He had been caught. Dexter had been caught and not fallen upon so poor passerby causing them both minor injuries in the process. He was unscathed and looking up at his savior he could tell the man was also unharmed. He sure as hell looked a lot nicer than Dexter. Especially after going through ha near death experience which had left him confused and exhausted. And there was also the whole issue of the light bulb and getting back up there. The mere thought of climbing back up made him a bit queasy. “Thank you! Thank you very much for um catching me.” He blurted out the words realizing he hadn’t said them just yet. Dexter averted his eyes unwilling to look up once more, and awkwardly adjusted the hairband holding back most of his hair form his face. This wasn’t the ideal first impression he ever wanted to make on strangers. Especially not the nice ones.

Seems as if the poor guy was still coping with the fact he had actually survived. Damascus opted to keep himself quiet, save for when the guy asked questions of him. The first question had come rather strangely. Where did he come from? Why, he had just swooped in to save the man. Wasn't that enough? Truthfully, Damascus didn't mind if the guy thanked him or not, but he did stand at further attention when thanked. The gesture was nice, it felt good to do those things. He could remember sitting around in a circle with the best, hand picked by Fawcett to be magicians worthy of studying in his realm.
Watching them was the first step to his curiosity being satiated. Then he engaged, found them fascinating, living such short lives but always moving forward with eagerness. With such a short time limit, they made the best of things. That's what Damascus admired so of mortals. ...yet they were also scary, and their sins could control them. That is something he was disappointed with. But nonetheless, this man was grateful and that was that. But now he needed to investigate. His eyes roamed upwards, looking to the lamp for answers. Just before he fell, he could see that he had been busy performing what he could assume was maintenance?
"Is your occupation mechanical work?" He would ask this, eyes still focused up above until he turned to look upon the man. If there was anything he knew well of mortals it was fear. Fear drove them to protect themselves, preserve their lives for another day. As such, he felt it was appropriate to ask his next question: "I can fix this lamp for you. Do you want me to do it for you instead?" Having a scare like that, he really did doubt he'd want to go back up and he can just fly up there anyway. Why not go the extra mile?

“Yes. I figure out how things work and try to fix them.” Dexter replied, swallowing hard. He could fix most things knowing the basic of how they worked. Technoclogy on Tartarus was simple enough for him to figure it out. If he was allowed to tinker long enough he managed to repair most thing. It was a living anyway. It felt more fulfilling than research anyway. He needed a moment to gather his thoguths, still a bit frazzled. His legs felt like jelly but even that was starting to calm down now that he was safe. “No! Well actually…” he let out the protest without really thinking it clearly. He was a mechanic, he had to have confidence in his work or he wouldn’t be able to steadily earn work orders and then he would starve as a consequence. Still…
Dexter looked up, paling at the thought of going back up there with the shitty safety that had already let him down once. “Actually…if it’s not too much trouble…and you’re not busy.” He began, bright eyes traveling from the empty lamp post to the blonde. “But I mean…I’ve been at this all morning. I have other posts to work on.” He explained. Despite this long winded speech he produced the rusty crews and the glass covering from his overall pockets. Fortunately everything was still in one piece. “Please. I..well truthfully, I might blow chunks if I try getting back up there.” Dexter confessed, turning his back on the stranger and walking over to his belongings. He produced a spare light bulb out of the plastic bag that held all the replacements.
At least if he did this, Dexter would get a moment for himself to think. He wouldn’t be looking at him. Of all days, it had to be today while he was working that he found a good looking robot. He thought anyway. Maybe now he’d be able to see what exactly the blonde had done to catch him beforehand. “Here.” Dexter said as he held up the spare, as well as the concave glass cover with the rusted screws inside.

Oh, so he was correct! A job that requires fixing and identifying problems! That sounded like a dream job for him. A spark was set in his eyes, interest quickly flooding them. H wanted to ask him how he learned. He educated himself didn't he? That is how how you learn to do things after all, even with magic and combat for himself. At first, Damascus felt that he had overstepped himself with asking. There was pride in ones work and craftsmanship. He choked back a breath, readying himself to apologize, but instead of this he inquired if he was busy. With a simple shaking of his head, that should reassure him that he was free to do as he liked for the moment. His mother usually let him know if he needed anything anyway, and right now he let him wander for today.
Best to take that and run with it considering how overprotective he was on a daily basis.
This would not be the first post to do though, but that was an extra detail that Damascus didn't mind. Dexter turned from him to grab something and Damascus would take the bulb and the needed compartments to successfully replace what was needed. Even just holding the light bulb, the God's energy caused it to spark to life and give off an intense warmth and light. "Very well, I will be done in a moment." Plainly spoken, Light began to form in various parts of his body. As easily as it was breathing, he began to rise in the air, ascending to the top of the pole.
There, Damascus replaced the bulb, putting in the new one and carefully removing the old and screwing the new one in. With the old components in his arms, he descended slowly until his feet were planted on the ground like before. "Since these are faulty components for a lamp post, may I destroy them?" He would ask this as plainly as possible, staring upon him with little emotion presented.
At least he asked permission first.

Dexter watched as his explanation seemed to arouse a bit of curiosity. It was a nice change of pace. Usually the only things that really became interested in him when he worked were stray animals. Still he offered a small smile, holding back a sigh of relief. He wasn’t busy which meant he would coma along with him which ultimately meant: no more climbing posts. The thought seemed to quell the nerves that had been holding a vice grp on his stomach, threatening to squeeze up his small breakfast right back up and out his mouth. He was startled as the bulb great bright, powered easily by Damascus’ touch. “That…that’s not right…” he whispered to himself frowning in confusion. The bulb wasn’t even plugged into the guy. How had he? Yes, this had to confirm it. He was definitely not human. There was no way a mere human could power a lightbulb with a simple touch. No. That wasn’t how the flow of electrons worked. Even if humans to produce static, that lone wasn’t enough to power a lightbulb. Especially NOT one meant for a street lamp.
And if he didn’t have further proof the blonde began to glow, emitting his own light. Dexter took a step back in surprise, eyes widening lips curling upwards into an excited grin. Yes. Yes, yes, yES! How such a sophisticated robot had made it onto the island was beyond him but he was beyond excited to see him in action. Was he hovering? Flying? Dexter’s head swam as he thought of the possible mechanics behind the function. Something powerful. He was a tall robot, and probably weighed a lot even with light weight metals. Speechless. He closed his mouth realizing it was gaping open. “Yes, of course. Go ahead.” He stared, curious at what else the robot was capable of. He wanted to run tests. No, he NEEDED to run tests. He wanted to know the limits of this bot and his intelligence. “How exactly did you do that? The light bulb trick I mean! Not the replacing the one I just gave you.” he asked, clarifying himself excited at the prospects of finding something so interesting on Tartarus of all places.
And then his attention drifted far off course away from the garbage the blonde was holding and towards his ripped shirt. Dexter’s head tilted staring casually. He had ripped it. He had ripped it while replacing the light bulb. Oh. Holy shit that was really nice to look at. “Oh nooo, your shirts in tatters. I’m really sorry…” he stated really hoping he got rid of it as well. He didn’t even notice the sudden rush of blood to his cheeks not really caring anyway.
